Before dedicating herself full time to writing, Joan was an attorney in Richmond, Virginia, and Miami, Florida, a newspaper editor and drama critic in San Antonio, Texas, a theatre director in Southwest Texas, and a college professor at the University of Miami, Florida. Joan has a Bachelor of Arts degree in theatre from Jacksonville University, a Master of Arts degree in theatre from the University of Illinois, and received her Juris Doctor degree with honors from the University of Texas at Austin School of Law.

Joan’s passion for travel includes trips to Italy, England, Greece, and Scotland to conduct research for her Benedict Brothers (Outcast, Invincible, Unforgettable, and Irresistible—coming soon!) and Captive Hearts series (Captive, After the Kiss, The Bodyguard, and The Bridegroom). For her beloved Bitter Creek books, Joan toured the legendary King Ranch in South Texas and learned how to track (humans and animals) from a deputy marshall deep in the Big Bend country of West Texas. She has also traveled to Australia to tour the big cattle stations and study life Down Under, in addition to visiting Tahiti and Bali for a South Seas, WWII novel she plans to write.

Joan’s popular dinner parties are widely known for their unique table settings and stimulating conversation following games, craft projects, and thought-provoking treasure hunts. Her coveted guest list includes hundreds of Coloradans and visitors who are treated to delicious meals while making new friends. A member of the Authors Guild, Romance Writers of America, Colorado Romance Writers, a charter member of Florida Romance Writers, and a member of Rocky Mountain Fiction Writers and Rocky Mountain Mystery Writers of America, Joan recently moved to North Carolina from Colorado.
